Re: Standardized Tests
I do not have my results back yet but I am considering giving it to them more often as well (we are in GA too). Mostly because I want to see where my dd with special needs lands. When did you give it to them and what ages are your dc? I will look into that one. I have a BS in Accounting. Also, how ...

Standardized Tests
I need some direction and instruction please. :? I am a new HS mommy and new HODie. I want to test my dd every year as opposed to every 3 years as required by GA. I assume that the Iowa Basics Test is the best one to use...I want to choose one test and stick with it. How do you go about testing? Do ...

Re: How to handle state history requirement?
What a great idea! I saw this company at the expo here last weekend but only got a handout. They were busy talking with other customers. I just ordered funbooks (age 3 - grade3) for our state and also for the states where my dh and I grew up. I plan to use one each year (1st - 3rd) so that dd can le...

We will start Beyond in mid-August for 1st grade for Jen who turned 6 in June. We are finishing up Kindergarten Singapore math and also doing Reading Made Easy and sight words now to bridge the summer. I had read that Singapore is possibly more advanced so we started the Kindergarten books as soon a...

Re: OT: Crayola Write Start Colored Pencils
Jen is 6. I think they would be great for any child, younger or older. I even like them better than other colored pencils for myself...not that I use colored pencils very often...

OT: Crayola Write Start Colored Pencils
Just have to share this with you all. I took Jen to the Crayola Factory in Easton, PA last week and we also visited the Crayola Store. I bought the Write Start colored pencils for her. According to Crayola, "The hexagonal shape and extra thick 5.3mm tips on Crayola Write Start® Colored Pencils make ...

Beyond and Reading Made Easy
Brand new HODie and homeschooler here - I started Reading Made Easy with my rising 1st grader. I will be starting Beyond in about 2-3 weeks and already have a question. Reading Made Easy has you write the words and sounds with a grey and black crayon and also has you circle the blend sounds. My ques...

Re: Fewer than 5 days a week anyone?
I am so glad that I found this post. We will not be able to do 5 days due to a rather hectic Tuesday schedule. We are doing Master's Academy on Tuesday mornings and then I teach preschool/kindergarten karate in the afternoon and follow that with girl scouts and gymnastics. I love the idea of adding ...

Teaching Character
I am a new HODie. I recently learned about the Teaching Character Through Literature Study Guide from Beautiful Feet Books. Has anyone used this guide for primary grades? Does Beyond include character training?
Thank you in advance for any advice.

We are also reading "The 4th of July Story" by Alice Dagliesh. I am breaking it up into 2 or 3 nights so that she can hopefully comprehend more of the story. Plus we are going to be driving up the east coast from GA to PA and NY the week after the 4th so I am pointing out which if the 13 colonies th...

We will start Beyond sometime in August. DD just turned 6 this month and I started her on Singapore K after she finished kindergarten at a church school. I want to finish that before I start 1A just to make certain that she is ready for 1A. We are new to homeschooling and very excited about the poss...

Anyone from GA?
I am. I live in the metro Atlanta area and am also new to BLH. What part of GA are you both in? What ages are your children that use HOD? Perhaps we can "get together" at some point.

Officially Homeschooling starting today!
My daughter graduated from a church kindergarten and we officially became homeschoolers today. She will be in 1st grade in the fall but right now I am starting with Singapore Kindergarten Math to make sure that she is ready before I start the 1st grade program. We also started "Teach Your Child to R...
