Re: HOD and MFW
So....what I'm thinking right now is to go ahead and do Beyond, and incorporate the few MFW things that I just think look too good to miss- their classical music resources, for instance, and a few of their recommended readers/read-alouds that I can get from the library. Those things would be easy t...

Re: I am not sure what to do...
Hugs! My dh will will deployed to Afg. this fall/winter - so I almost teared up when I read your post. Has your dh been deployed before? I didn't know if you're used to deployment or not. My dh was deployed to Iraq when our third child was born - school wasn't a huge issue for us as my oldest was K ...

Re: HOD and MFW
Mrs. Lilac, I haven't used MFW, but looked at it seriously before coming to HOD. (I was considering the Creation to Greeks package). ONe difference is that with HOD you can choose a package for your younger and then include an older child with the extension packs. With MFW, I would have geared my ch...

Re: OT: Prayers please!
Tamara, I am praying for you now. I'm so thankful to hear you describe good preggo symptoms! Maybe that little spotting was just a really healthy implantation. I'm praying for the Lord to prepare your new home for you and to guide your dh to it and to bless your children's hearts to receive the comi...

Re: New to HOD
Welcome! I only "found" HOD around Christmas time. I've been using Beyond with my 5 and 7yo for about 2 months. I just started my oldest (10yo) in Preparing this week. I also have a 3 yo and a 9mos old. This week as been a little "off" for us as we all seem to be on the "late shift" - up late and sl...

Re: Is Beyond the right choice for us?
I "third" checking the placement chart first (it's very accurate!) and then consider adjustments after that. I will say this about Beyond. I started it a couple months ago with my 7yo and 5yo. Even though my 10yo was not "supposed" to do it with us, he certainly listened in a lot. (I just started hi...

Re: Need advice...
I totally understand where you are coming from. I recently wrestled with a similar decision with my oldest. I thought I would start him in CTC in the fall (he's 10.5 finishing "4th grade" now). He has a very good knowledge of history (he listens to Diana Waring cds and SOTW cds every day on his own)...

Re: OT: Schedulers - wake a sleeping baby???
I have always let a sleeping baby lie. But, I also think that you should do what works best for your family. I only have two kiddos right now, so I'm not sure, if I had a few more if I would still follow that or not. lol Yes, this is where I have been - letting the baby sleep... but now that I have...

Re: OT--For those who have homeschooled preschoolers
LOL, I do know what you mean!! Usually I only tell people I'm homeschooling if they ask if my dd is in preschool. I simply tell them no, that she is homeschooled. Then, for some reason they are totally fine with it! However, in that case there is usually a follow up question... "Are you sending her...

What genre for Burgess Bird Book....
What DITHOR genre would you place Burgess Bird Book, Burgess Seashore Book, and Burgess Animal Book? We are going to the beach end of May and I thought my oldest would enjoy the Seashore Book (he loved the other two). There is a lot of "non-fiction" info in these books, but they are set in a frame o...

Rebecca,
Yay! Isn't it great to find something that fits so well! I feel the exact same way. And it's funny to find such a gem after hearing about everything coming and going on other boards.
Glad you love it!

Re: Waiting until fall???
Yep - I'm right there with you. I just decided on HOD a couple months ago. I'm on week 7 of Beyond with my 7 and 5yo and planning to start Preparing with my oldest on Monday. This was my harder choice because I wanted to start him on CTC in the fall, but I wasn't happy with what we were doing this y...

OT: Schedulers - wake a sleeping baby???
Hi friends, I'm trying to get my MOTH schedule going again. I have a 9month old (and a 3.5yo, 5.5yo, 7yo, 10.5 yo). She some days sleeps as late as 8:30 - but when I try to "schedule" everyone it would make more sense for her to be up earlier so that she had already nursed and had cereal by 8 or so....
