making up time after half speed
I am planning Bigger at half speed, at least to start, for the fall with my ds8. He is not strong in reading and writing and I'm a bit nervous taking him into this guide while teaching/mothering my littles too. :) I thought half speed would be the perfect option so we could just take it easy and foc...

Bigger Memory Verse Review?
In looking at the Bigger guide, I didn't see a review of the memory verses built into a particular unit like in the previous two guides. Is there a system for review of the memory verses? and what do you do with the card filing system you've made?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Re: Rod & Staff English progression through the guides
Thank you for sharing that link. I found it very helpful in preparing for my HOD future. When I read the reasons behind something Carrie has chosen, I get goosebumps and think, "oh yes, this is for me, too." Such solid reasoning.

teaching two to read
I'm looking at using The Reading Lesson w/CD to teach my twins5 to read this fall. I'm wondering if I should go over the phonics lesson individually (alone) with each so as to lessen memory repeating from the first reader, or if it's OK to combine them in the lesson and just have them take turns bei...

Re: The Reading Lesson question
I'm very disappointed in my copy. It has totally fallen apart after only about 18 months of use. The binding has split in two with many pages coming out. I've had to buy a new copy, and I hope it lasts. I too plan to use it with upcoming readers. We just used our fingers to trace out the lines for t...

I would like to know what is meant by Laundry flakes for the assignment? Is there a brand that is recommended? I see that we can grate our own, but what was intended?

Re: 2 guides? Do 1 at at time?
I am doing this because I can't seem to make anything else work. I have young students, ds7 in Beyond and dd's4 in LHTH. They are all very dependent on me and can only work very briefly independently. It has always taken me longer than the suggested times for each guide, I'm not sure why, perhaps I ...

Re: If you start with LHFHG in K and do a guide a year . . .
I'm interested in this, wondering how long the high school history cycle is. Is it three or four years? I suppose it depends what curriculum you use, but what is required for High School credit? If we hit the geography guide for 9th, will that crunch the remaining history (have to get a four year cy...

Re: LHFHG half speed...How?
One thing Carrie said in a recent thread is that 3 of her boys were different ages going through the guides (younger age, middle age and higher end of the recommended age range per guide). She said something like, each son got some thing different out of each guide but each benefited appropriately a...

Re: LHFHG half speed...How?
I'm thinking of doing this too with my young 5yo twins in the fall. But I don't want to be "off" of the math box for the second year and then working from the appendix schedule for the rest of schooling, every subsequent guide. I like to be in the scheduled pages in the boxes if possible. Would it b...

Re: Beyond users- Unit?
We're also on unit 14, day 4 of Beyond. We started in Sept, but took it slow during the nice fall days. That did put us behind schedule including Christmas company and such. If we stay on course, we can finish mid-June. That's my goal. You're in good company.

Re: Next year with many kiddos:)
Julie, I just want to say thank you!!!! I have been spending time looking at your schedules and have gotten some good ideas. Today was a good school day! Granted, We're only doing LHTH and Beyond but we got them both done before lunch! I was so thrilled. My little girls love school and I was glad to...

Re: Emerging Reader Question
Julie, thank you for your help. I see how that works now. I really don't know when ds7 will be ready to start the readers. I think he could be close-ish, now. He was not enjoying the phonics program, so I set it aside about halfway through and picked up some easy readers from the library. He has bee...

Re: Emerging Reader Question
I've been wondering how to schedule both bibles in the ERS, using the standard 34 units from start to finish, when only one or the other is scheduled. I plan to do the Emerging Readers starting next fall with Bigger. I have a struggling reader right now finishing phonics. I was hoping to use both Bi...
