Re: More questions...Little Hearts or Beyond?

Has anyone tried to do the schedule as follows?: 1st grade : First 2/3 of Beyond 2nd grade: Last 1/3 of Beyond, First 1/3 of Bigger 3rd grade: Last 2/3 of Bigger Just a thought. If one did it this way, or half time, what do you fill up the rest of your time with? In our state DS will be compulsory ...

Re: Anyone doing bigger with a 2nd grader?

I agree with the others' advice to not skip Beyond. We started Beyond at the beginning of his 1st grade year. He's progressed wonderfully this year, but I still don't think he would be ready for full blown Bigger in August when we start our school year. We'll pick it up at half speed in December. My...

Re: Give your opinion: Science in future guides

Tricia, I think SC is referring to Physical Science in that way because some colleges don't accept it as a lab science. In Va, I think at the time, if I tried to put my kids in high school, the schools would not have accepted their Physical Science as a high school level course, they would have had ...

Re: book projects to send home

If I were to look for these used and would be starting with a child in DITHR next year with the first level, which book projects book should I start with? It looks like they go all the way down to Kind, but DITHR starts with grade 2/3--do I look for grade 2 and work my way up? Thanks!

Re: beyond/1st grade math

I agree about starting with 1A. The kids will pick up the Singapore way pretty quickly, especially if you are starting young, but the real need is for you to get the foundation in the way Singapore works, unless you were raised under this type of math, which would be very unusual if you grew up in t...

Re: Singapore Primary Math Home Instructor's Guide???

I'm pretty old school when it comes to math. I went to elementary school in the late 60s/early 70s, just to give you some perspective of where I am coming from. I had never heard of number bonds either, although they are similar to the fact families I used with my older children. My older two went t...

Re: Doubting my plan before i even start

Yep! Sounds good! I'm going through the packs for Beyond--my ds is 6, almost 7--and am picking books that correlate with what we are reading in history, at least sort of, or books that I really enjoyed as a child, or that my older two enjoyed. Right now we're in historical fiction and studying the P...

Re: Please help me decide on R & S English - which level?

R&S grammar progresses very rapidly, particularly after level 4. I've taken two kids all the way through their level 8 (which is the equivalent of post-high school grammar.) I've even used the level 8 book two years in a row with both of them because it is so meaty that one pass through wasn't enoug...

If anyone has Photoshop elements, you can download the files Julie provided (thanks Julie, they look wonderful) and convert them to pdf files using the save as option in the program.

Re: We start tomorrow!

Our official start is today, too. Ds has been doing Beyond for 7 units, but today we add his high school sister to the mix. Since we finished Little Hearts, school has been hit or miss due to it being bonus/keep skills sharp time, but now, it's buckle down and do school every day time. Everyone have...

Re: Hello! :0)

Welcome, Jen! You'll find lots of us here (Jens, I mean). I think you will really enjoy Bigger. We're looking forward to it next year with my 6 yo son. We've been schooling all summer with him, although he's been on a 10 day camping vacation at the beach with his grandparents. Our official school st...

Re: Box day & Ideas for doing Beyond at half-speed

I'm slowing Beyond down for my 6 yo son by doing HOD work 3 days a week. We'll do all the boxes for each day on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. On Monday and Friday we'll do math, copywork (not from HOD) and reading (also not from HOD), plus any extras we have time for, oh yeah, and run errands. I'm s...

Re: Just Scheduled Books for Emerging Readers in Beyond?

The Emerging Reader set assumes the children have already completed a phonics program. That said, sounds like your girls can already read well. Maybe supplement with R&S 1 or 2 depending on where they need to begin. If they read the Pathways reader for 1st, then they obviously know short vowel sound...
