Re: Heart of Dakota Dithor Booklist

Yes! In fact I just bought a series off of EBay that I found on the sample booklist. The Three Cousins Detective Club- Christian mysteries. I place great faith in Carries list as wholesome book choices for my children.

Re: Breakthrough - Learn to Read - An Ant

Thank you, Julie! And now we just finished Book 1 last week and started Book 2 this week. He is so proud of himself and doing really well!

Re: New Products Coming...

I'm so excited for the new things! Will there be a new guide for LHFHG? Or will there be a schedule for the new Storytime books? We are currently in Week 4 of our last time through LHFHG so I'd love to include these before we get too much further in. How will the Burgess books be used in the LA box ...

Feeling Discouraged...Struggling w/ 6YO

And yes, this is the same 6yo I posted about the other day having a breakthrough. And he did. He is doing really well with his reading and his attention span is increasing and he is showing a desire to do more school. That said, when he is not doing school, it is SO HARD to keep him occupied. I love...

"Deep Division"

My 7 1/2 yo DS is doing long division in Singapore 3A. He thinks it should be called Deep Division "because it's not that long and it actually goes down", in his words. :D He was pretty intimidated at first, but is proud of himself that he is starting to memorize more of the steps. This time of year...

Breakthrough - Learn to Read - An Ant

My reading-resistant newly 6yo DS made a breakthrough yesterday and actually ASKED to read more pages in An Ant! With my older two, I felt the CM philosophy that many kids are not ready for formal school until age 6 would not have benefitted them. They were both advanced and eager to learn. But with...

Bigger Vocabulary - "Now that's what you call a VOLLEY!"

We were on Unit 5 Day 3 of Bigger shortly before our Christmas break and my son chose "volley" as his vocabulary word from the Eggleston reading to look up and illustrate. Watching Elf tonight (for the umpteenth time) we came to the snowball scene (if you've ever seen Elf, you know what I mean) and ...

Love Love Love the New Visual History Bookmark Set for Beyond!

I received the Visual History Bookmark set for the Beyond guide and it's beautiful! I only wish we had had it this whole last year we did Beyond with my son. But I'm glad we have it for our next trip through Beyond in a couple of years! I especially love the Picture Clues on the back of each bookmar...

Re: Not Giving 5YO Time He Needs

Oh yes, he can listen to an audiobook during quiet time. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't.

Re: Not Giving 5YO Time He Needs

Yes, thank you! Maybe yesterday was just a bad day. He was very tired and ended up taking a 2 hour nap. I've read all of Teri Maxwell's scheduling books and have been using her methods for several years now - so I have him scheduled every half hour for play time with each sibling, play alone time, q...

Not Giving 5YO Time He Needs

I'm back again with another post about this same 5 yo I've been struggling with, who does not seem ready for LHFHG. I feel like he needs a lot more of me than I've been giving him. I thought starting school would be some of that "fun" time together, but since he doesn't seem to be ready for that, I'...

What did you do when you paused him for a semester? Just focus on reading?

Stepping back on LHFHG

Well, I started my DS5 1/2 on LHFHG last month for kindergarten. But even going half-speed, I don't think he's ready for it. It was a perfect guide for Kindergarten for my DS7 (who finishes Beyond this week), but now I'm seeing why many people use LHFHG for 1st grade. My little guy will be six in De...

Re: History Encyclopedia

We picked up a used library set of World Book Encyclopedia's for use with Preparing. It's not Christian of course, but I wanted a traditional set of encyclopedias for any research. I had my daughter look things up first in the encyclopedia, then if she couldn't find the answer, we went to Wikipedia....

Paint with the Poets Review - 5 Stars!

My DD10 just started using Paint with the Poets and loved it! She had been using the watercolor tutorials linked on this board, which were very helpful and we are grateful for the mom who put them together and generously shared them here. But my daughter said Paint with the Poets was easier to follo...
