Middle School Scripture Memory Cards
This blog post takes a look inside our Middle School Scripture Memory Cards!
Our tweens today receive countless messages from television, radio, books, magazines, movies, and social media. Powerful marketing messages make it their mission to influence the way our middle school children think and behave.
As Christian homeschool parents, we work to replace these negative messages with positive messages. We know what our tweens hear, what they say… and what they say – they do! And there aren’t any better words for our children “to hear, to say, and to do” than God’s Words!
If you have a tween-aged child, you have a child who is ready to commit God’s Words to memory, and Heart of Dakota’s middle school Scripture Memory Cards are just the way to do so!
What makes our middle school Scripture Memory Cards so special?
Three beautiful sets of two-sided, full-color Scripture Cards were created to match three of our middle school guides. Each guide makes memorization of God’s Word a priority, yet each guide offers its own special, unique Bible Quiet Time.
Each set of cards aids children in progressively committing to memory foundational Scripture passages. Our Creation to Christ guide for ages 9 to 11 includes Scripture Memory Cards for Philippians 2. Additionally, these cards help children further connect with the ancients history they are learning, as these passages also match the weekly history theme!
Our Resurrection to Reformation guide for ages 10 to 12 includes Scripture Memory Cards for Philippians 1. Additionally, these cards help children further connect with the history they are learning, as these passages also match the weekly history theme!
Finally, our Revival to Revolution guide for ages 11 to 13 includes Scripture Memory Cards for Hebrews 11:1 – 12:3. These cards also help children further connect with Bible Study lessons from Heroes in Faith: The Hidden Treasures of Hebrews. Together, they make the memorization of Scripture a joy to be remembered!
Why did Carrie and her son, Shaw, create these middle school Scripture Memory Cards?
Carrie and her son, Shaw, created these cards for tweens to make Scripture memorization a fun, daily part of their own Bible Quiet Time. Each beautiful two-sided card provides an interactive way to practice and review landmark Scripture verses. Furthermore, these clever Scripture Memory Cards function as just one part of multi-faceted Bible Quiet Time plans!
In Creation to Christ, children read a selection from The Illustrated Family Bible, highlight a Scripture focus in their own Bibles, pray a personal prayer rotating through the ACTS model, practice their Scripture Memory Card, and sing that same verse with their matching Philippians 2 CD! This corresponding music audio serves as a word-for-word memorization tool for the 1984 New International Version (NIV) of Philippians 2.
In Resurrection to Reformation, children read a selection from Hidden Treasures in Philippians, use their Bibles to answer inductive questions in their workbook, use the provided ACTS model prayer starter to pray, practice their Scripture Memory Card, and sing that same verse with their matching Philippians 1 CD! This corresponding music audio serves as a word-for-word memorization tool for the 1984 New International Version (NIV) of Philippians 1.
Finally, in Revival to Revolution, children read a selection from Hidden Treasures in Hebrews, use their Bibles to answer inductive questions in their workbook, choose from provided ACTS model prayer starters to pray, and practice their Scripture Memory Card! This handy reference matches the 1995 New American Standard Bible (NASB) word-for-word.
This multisensory approach is sure to encourage tweens to make a habit of having a daily Bible Quiet Time. As each verse is committed to memory, children copy it in their Charlotte Mason-style Common Place Books. At the end of each year, they have a collection of memory cards and a journal keepsake of memorized verses to treasure forever!
How do these memory cards work in Heart of Dakota?
The front of each card for Creation to Christ and Resurrection to Reformation showcases the particular verse children are memorizing for the week. Children read it, study it, and recite it. The back of each card includes the same verse, but in context with all the surrounding verses that match the song for the week. Students can test their memories by saying the verse with their cards. Then, they can sing along with the music to see if they were right!
The front of each card for Revival to Revolution showcases the particular verse children are memorizing for the week. Key words are highlighted, and children read the verse, study it, and recite it. The back of each card features the same verse, but the key words have been removed and replaced with blanks. Students can test their memories by referring to the incomplete version. Then, they can flip the card over to see if they were right!
