What will both of my twins do in their Devotional USI Bible Studies?
I have twins who will be doing Heart of Dakota’s (HOD’s) American History I guide. My husband is going to do the Devotional Bible Study with our son, and I am going to do the Devotional Bible Study with our daughter. We are both looking forward to this and are dedicated to giving our best to this. Even though we have twins, we are finding they definitely need different devotionals at this stage. Thank you for recognizing that and for planning both accordingly. So, could you please share a little about each of both the Devotional Bible Studies?
Sincerely,
“Ms. Please Share What Both Our Twins Will Be Doing in Their USI Bible Studies”
Dear “Ms. Please Share What Both Our Twins Will Be Doing in Their USI Devotional Bible Studies,”
I would love to share some details about our Devotional Bible Studies in the USI high school guide. As you have probably seen from our HOD website, we include a once weekly girl/boy devotional Bible study. With the maturing age range of students using this guide in mind, we couldn’t let this important time in their lives pass without addressing heart issues that are specific to young men and women. This is also a wonderful time in students’ lives to celebrate the differences endowed upon us by our Creator and to prepare students to fulfill their calling to be a Godly young man or woman as placed upon them by the Lord.
USI’s Devotional Bible Study for Both Boys and for Girls
For boys, we include Everyday Battles by Bob Schultz and Thoughts for Young Men by J.C. Ryle. For girls, we include Beyond Beautiful Girlhood. For both boys and girls, we include two booklets that help students think about courtship and the importance of choosing a God-honoring mate. Our oldest son read many books about courtship, and the two we finally selected were his favorites. After going through many resources in the search for the best courtship materials, I wholeheartedly agree with him that these are the best succinct materials for courtship that address both the head and the heart! The two titles we selected for this important area are Stay in the Castle/Warrior Prince and Seven Royal Laws of Courtship. These books include such wisdom, Godly Christian counsel, helps, and encouragement. Therefore, they are not to be missed as part of a teenager’s journey toward adulthood.
We have used Everyday Battles and Thoughts for Young Men with our own oldest son, and we found the advice and stories to be well-timed for his life. After finding Beyond Beautiful Girlhood, and pondering the timely advice and training it contained for young women, I knew I’d found a needed selection for the girls as well. Growing up in a family of all girls and now having all boys has given me a unique perspective on the differences between both boys and girls! We pray that both your twins will be blessed by reading these selections along with completing the corresponding Devotional Bible Studies wound within each of these volumes.
A Description of the Everyday Battles Portion of the Devotional Bible Study
In this, his final book before passing from this life, Bob Schultz delves into God’s purpose for battles and conflicts in our lives. Simply written but profoundly engaging, Everyday Battles offers perspective on how to find God in the heart of daily conflicts and decisions. This book will help anyone who desires to experience a deeper walk with God that is not diverted during painful times.
Topics include:
- Why God allows battles and sufferings
- What to do at the first sign of conflict
- How God really views His people
- How to gain the wisdom you need for decision-making
Bob’s key passion in life was always investing in men and families, and his writing ministry was focused on that. He was nearly finished with Everyday Battles when he collapsed with a fatal heart attack. At the request of vast numbers of eager and loyal readers of his previous books, this final, partially completed manuscript is available. Bob Schultz was author of: Boyhood and Beyond, Created for Work, and Practical Happiness.
A Description of the Thoughts for Young Men Portion of the Devotional Bible Study
Thoughts for Young Men is a timeless treasure. Ryle’s writing is firm, but tenderhearted, as a loving grandfather. His style is plain and practical. His message is needed. He writes about dangers of young men, such as pride, love of pleasure, thoughtlessness, and fear of man’s opinion. He also gives counsel and rules for young men to help avoid temptations like lust and to draw into a closer walk with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Though J.C. Ryle (1816-1900), wrote Thoughts for Young Men over a century ago, the message applies to every generation of young men. You may think that you have very little in common with a young man of the late 19th century, but you will be surprised at how relevant Ryle’s admonitions and encouragements are to you today. Read, reflect, and receive godly wisdom. This edition includes the complete text of J.C. Ryle’s classic, Thoughts for Young Men as well as a study guide with thought-provoking questions. It is great for personal or shared study. “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” (1 Timothy 4:12)
A Description of the Beyond Beautiful Girlhood Portion of the Devotional Bible Study
Is your daughter prepared for life? Have you taught her how to manage a home, life, and spirit? Mothers, you know the transition from carefree girlhood to the daybreak of womanhood can be the most frightening and exciting of times for your daughter! This book has often been described as a glorified home economics course because of the Biblical manner in which it deals with the transition. Beyond Beautiful Girlhood Plus Companion Guide can help make the most of the remaining time you have with your daughter by equipping her with the skills and Biblical truths she needs to know.
Each chapter includes the following:
- Complete Text: Gently revised text from the original 1900 book entitled Winsome Womanhood
- Mother to Mother: Goals for each chapter are explained and encouragement is shared by author.
- Mother and Daughter Journal: Create a precious record of the heart by writing in the journal provided at the end of each chapter.
- Bible Study: Discover seven different spiritual disciplines that will draw both of you into a deeper and more consistent walk with the Lord.
- Projects: Together enjoy enrichment activities with an emphasis on home, life and spiritual life management. These projects put the concepts of the chapter into action!
- Resources: Delve deeper into the topics covered with suggested reading.
A Description of the Brief Booklet Stay in the Castle/Warrior Prince Portion of the Devotional Bible Study
Stay in the Castle is used for the girls’ portion of the Devotional Bible Study, and The Warrior Prince is used for the boys’ portion of the Devotional Bible Study. Stay in the Castle tells the story of a young lady’s struggles to wait for the one God created for her, while The Warrior Prince relates the searching, mistakes, and battles of the young man who seeks her.
Written as a succinct, modern-day fairy tale, this is the story of young people who find themselves at a crossroad. One road is marked “My will”, while the other is marked “God’s will”. Reading this story illustrates the difference between both choosing a mate whom your heart desires and choosing a mate whom God desires. These are based on the inspirational true story of one teenager’s struggle to wait for the one God had created for her. (Note: Reading this story brought tears to my eyes!)
A Description of the Seven Royal Laws of Courtship: Practical Advice for Both the Knight in Training and the Lady in Waiting Portion of the Devotional Bible Study
What Stay in the Castle offers in inspiration, the Seven Royal Laws of Courtship offers in practical instruction. This 44 page booklet introduces seven Biblical principles to help young people find and marry the person whom God has created for them. The “Seven Royal Laws” include:
1. By the grace of Almighty God, I will marry the person that God has created for me.
2. By the grace of Almighty God, I will arrive at the marriage altar morally pure.
3. By the grace of Almighty God, I will arrive at the marriage altar prepared to fulfill my responsibilities as a marriage partner.
4. By the grace of Almighty God, our marriage will have the blessing of both sets of parents and our pastors.
5. By the grace of Almighty God, I will have glorified God and maintained an unquestionable Christian testimony throughout my courtship.
6. By the grace of Almighty God, I will give to my partner someone who understands and practices real agape love.
7. By the grace of Almighty God, on my wedding day, I will be in a position to fulfill God’s specific calling for my life.
Blessings,
Carrie
