Heart of Dakota Tidbit
What do Laura Ingalls Wilder and Heart of Dakota have in common? South Dakota!
Did you know Heart of Dakota is located near Laura Ingalls Wilder’s homestead? The Ingalls family moved to the De Smet area in 1879, at the beginning of the book By the Shores of Silver Lake. Like many other settlers, free land brought the Ingalls family to Dakota territory. The homestead can still be visited today! Just outside our HOD Warehouse, cornfields can still be seen that look much the same as they did when Laura lived in South Dakota – though the size of the fields and the manner in which they are farmed has changed greatly!
Have a great weekend!
